About Us

Kurow Medical Centre is a member of the Wellsouth (PHO). By enrolling with us you are also enrolling with the Southern PHO. The PHO receives funding from the government which it distributes to medical centres to subsidise consultations and other services for enrolled patients. We have a satalite clinic in Twizel and an outreach clinic in Omarama To enrol with Kurow Medical Centre we require you to complete a form and we may require proof of your eligibility for government funded healthcare by sighting your passport or other proof of eligibility. Kurow Medical Centre also has a Doctors House which is available for locum doctors and medical or nursing students. It is situated opposite the Medical Centre at 3 Wynyard Street.
Complaints Procedure
The Kurow Medical Centre acknowledges the rights of the patient outlined within the Health & Disability Commissioners Code of Rights. We aim to provide a high quality, professional service for all patients at all times.
If you have any complaints about the treatment or service you have received from us we would like to know. We encourage you to provide full details of your complaint in writing to us as soon as possible so we can fully investigate your complain.
If you make a complain to us we will:
  • Let you know that we have received your complaint within 5 working days unless it has been resolved to your satisfaction within that time
  • Let you know within 10 working days whether or not we feel your complaint is justified. If we need more time to investigate your complain we will advise you of this and why more time is needed.
Once we have made a decision regarding the acceptance or otherwise of your complaint we will:
  • Provide you with reasons for our decision
  • Advise you of actions we propose to take
  • Advise you of the practice appeal procedures and your rights to complain to the Health & Disability Commissioner or the Privacy Commissioner.
For complaints that take some time to fully resolve we will advise you about the progress of your complain each month.
At any time you require we will provide you with all the information that the Kurow Medical Centre holds that is or may be relevant to your complaint.

We keep the personal information we hold safe by storing it in encrypted files and only allowing certain staff to access it.
**Health Information Privacy Statement Update**
Recent changes to the Privacy Act require our Practice to notify patients when information is collected about them from other agencies. We have recently updated our Health Information Privacy Statement to include this advice:
Health Information Collection
Your general practice can collect information from other agencies for the purpose of maintaining an up-to- date health record and providing safe and quality primary health care.
This may include:
Receipt of laboratory, radiology or other resultsShared electronic health records, such as HealthOne (used in the South Island), which provides test results, allergies, medications, clinician summaries and hospital information shared by other providers involved in your care.Correspondence from after-hours services, hospitals and specialists which can include discharge summaries, specialist letters, lab and imaging results.Letters and notifications from referral providers reporting back on health or screening programmes for which you have been referred (for example, Green Prescription, smoking cessation, dietitian).Information from Health NZ and WellSouth in regards to updated demographic, NHI or eligibility information.Contact from or correspondence from non-health agencies such as Police, legal representatives, Oranga Tamariki, insurance companies, Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income New Zealand) and the Accident Compensation CorporationReceipt of correspondence from employers, regarding, for example, fitness to workIf you have any questions about this please contact our practice manager or discuss with our reception team.
A reminder that all patients have the right to access (and have corrected) their health information under Rules 6 and 7 of the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.

What is HealthOne?
HealthOne is a South Island based secure electronic record that allows registered healthcare providers directly involved in your healthcare, to quickly access information such as your test results, allergies, medications, GP summaries and hospital information. HealthOne adheres to the principles of the Privacy Act 2020 as well as the Rules set out in the Health Information Privacy Code 2020. Access is only possible via an approved highly secure healthcare information network which is regularly audited and tested.
